Fusing classes are usually held in Studio #131 at Cottonwood Center for the Arts on Sunday afternoons from 1 to about 3:30pm, or whenever you are finished with your projects. If you want to have a class with several of your friends, groups of 3 to 4 people may be scheduled on any day of the week and at most any time.
The class starts with a presentation about the basics of fusing, a look at the various types of glass available for fusing, and an explanation of some of the processes used in making fused glass. You will also see some of the fun and interesting things that I have made with glass. You will also learn how to cut glass for your projects. It is easier than you might think! During the class you will make 2 projects: a 6″ square plate and either a smaller plate or suncatcher. Items that are made into plates go through 2 firings of about 18 hours each. The second firing is used to slump the glass into the curved shape of a plate. The class includes instruction, the use of tools, glass, and the kiln firings. Projects will be ready to pick up about 4 days after the class.
Cottonwood Center for the Arts is located at 427. E. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
